January, 2008
Dear Parents and Students,
With the start of a new year, we are reminded that it is time to
start thinking about choosing courses for the next academic year. We
ask that you review the course selections (There is a Program of
Studies Booklet posted on the school’s Website) to insure that your
son/daughter makes informed choices when arena scheduling is done
during the week of Feb. 4th. In choosing courses, please keep in mind
that all students are required to register for six courses. Please
refer to the school profile for graduation requirements. In addition,
because of the competitive nature of the college admissions process,
we strongly encourage all students who are recommended
to take math, science, and language throughout their four years.
As has been our policy in recent years for students in grades 9-11,
the only courses available as 7th courses are the Fine Arts electives.
These courses are highly recommended for enrichment and development of
talent. Please be advised, however, that these courses cannot be
dropped once schedules are finalized during the first week of July
(the 2008 deadline for any change is Monday July 7, 2008). All
freshmen who do not choose to take a Fine Arts course will be enrolled
in our Freshmen Art Exploration program.
This year, seniors will have the opportunity to take a seventh
course in Fine Arts or other subject areas, but they must inform and
consult with their guidance counselor before making this choice.
Seniors are also reminded that these 7th course selections cannot be
dropped once schedules are finalized during the first week of July
(this year’s deadline is July 7, 2008) and that selection of a 7th
course will limit access to senior privilege. We believe it is fair
for students to be given the opportunity in making this choice, but
they must be prudent when making this choice.
During the next few weeks guidance counselors will be advising
students about their course selections for the 2008-2009 academic
year. If you should have any questions or concerns, please fell free
to contact the guidance department at any time.
Sincerely,
Paul Cartier, Principal |
