Dear Parents and Guardians,
This past week, the MIAA sent out an informational packet informing
us about the sudden proliferation of staph infections among student
athletes across the state and what precautions can be taken to address
this problem. Coincidentally, within the past two days we have sent
three athletes home and have asked them to be checked by their family
physicians for suspicious rashes. At this time we have no confirmed
cases of staph infection; however we need to exercise caution and
vigilance
In order to be proactive in addressing this issue we have asked:
1. that our coaching staff continue its policy of insuring that
all athletic equipment be thoroughly sprayed with disinfectant at
the conclusion of each practice.
2. that our custodial staff continue to clean the locker room
area thoroughly with bleach and disinfectant each day.
3. that all students in all sports take home their athletic
uniforms, towels, socks, etc. to be washed each day after practice
during the season. If students do not cooperate during the cleaning
process, we will throw away left behind clothing articles.
Furthermore, students must not share and/or exchange towels, water
bottles, or athletic gear. This is an unsanitary hygienic practice and
can have severe consequences. We must all observe the rules governing
proper sanitary practices in order to meet the safety of our students.
We will create a link on our Website in which parents can review
the MIAA message concerning safe health and sanitation practices to be
observed by participating athletes:
Thank you for your spirit of cooperation regarding this important
health matter.
Sincerely,
Paul Cartier, Principal
