Goals for Contact
Freshman year: Small group appointments are designed to help build student/counselor rapport. Issues such as course placement, adjustment issues, specific concerns, and sophomore year courses are all discussed. Students are encouraged to visit their counselor as needed and individual appoinments are welcomed.

Sophomore year: Emphasis is on career exploration. Small group appointments are scheduled to review courses, standardized testing (PSAT) and specific concerns. Junior year course selections are determined.

Junior year: College exploration begins! The College Planning Guide is distributed. All students participate in two college mini fairs in the fall. Individual appointments are designed to help students develop a list of potential colleges to visit/research over the summer. Discussions begin surrounding choices for teacher recommendations. Senior courses are selected. Junior Class College Parent Information Night is scheduled in the spring and a large college fair is held each April. Students will also create a "Brag Sheet" and create a resume that they should have saved on their home computer.

Senior year: Student and counselor work closely to narrow college list to include schools that are a good fit, a potential reach and a perceived sure bet! Students ask two teachers for recommendations. A Financial Aid Night presentation is given in the winter and spring.
