Guidance Services Overview
The purpose of a high school counseling program is
to promote and enhance student development in the academic, career,
personal, social, and spiritual realms.
Following, are the identified standards for these
areas of development.
1.
Academic Development:
Standard A: Students will grow in their knowledge of the
Catholic faith, and will acquire the attitudes, knowledge and skills
that contribute to effective learning in school and throughout
adulthood.
Standard B: Students will complete school with the academic
preparation essential to choose from a wide range of colleges and
additional postsecondary options.
Standard C: Students will understand the
relationship of academics to the world of work, and to life at home
and in the community.
2. Career Development:
Standard A: Students will acquire the skills to investigate the
world of work in relationship to knowledge of self, education and
training, in order to make informed career decisions.
Standard B: Students will employ strategies to achieve future
career success
and
satisfaction.
3. Personal/Social Development:
Standard A: Students will acquire the faith-based attitudes,
knowledge, and interpersonal skills to help them understand and
respect self and others.
Standard B: Students will make decisions, set goals, and take
necessary action to achieve goals.
Standard C: Students will understand safety and survival skills.
Goals for Contact:
Freshman year: Quarterly
individual appointments designed to help build student/counselor
rapport. Issues such as course placement, adjustment issues, specific
concerns, sophomore year courses are all discussed.
Sophomore year:
Emphasis on career exploration. Quarterly individual
appointments are scheduled to review courses, standardized testing (PSAT)
and specific concerns. Junior year course selections are determined.
Junior year:
College exploration begins! College Planning Guide
distributed. All students participate in College Information Day.
Individual appointments are designed to help students develop list of
potential colleges to visit/research over the summer. Discussions
begin surrounding choices for teacher recommendations. Senior courses
are selected. Junior Class College Parent Information Night is
scheduled in the spring.
Senior year: Student
and counselor work closely to narrow college list to include schools
that are a good fit, a potential reach and a perceived sure bet!
Students complete a “Brag Sheet” and create a resume. Students ask two
teachers for recommendations. Senior
College Parent Night is scheduled in the
fall. A Financial Aid Night and “Making
College Count” presentations are given in the winter and
spring.

We are a SAT Test Center for the
October and June exams.

We are an ACT Test Center for the April
exam.

Last year over 40 college/universities visited CCHS.

Over 95% of students pursue post-secondary education.

We offer 9 Advanced Placement Courses.

We issue first quarter progress notes
in all freshman courses.

All Freshmen have the same counselor. After
that every effort is made to have each student assigned to
the same counselor for the next three years.

ALL your deadlines! Also please remember that there is a $10 fee per
transcript after the first FIVE applications. Counselors must
