Lindsey’s Family Restaurant Scholarship – $5,000 !!!  scholarship is in memory of Shon Shadrick, a young man from Brockton who passed away from Leukemia after being born with Down’s Syndrome. Applicant must be majoring in Special Education.  Great scholarship opportunity. Stephen Phillips Memorial Scholarship Award – renewable 4 year scholarships offered to students with financial need who display academic excellence, etc. Check out:  www.phillips-scholarship.org for detailed information and to download the application. This one is definitely worth going for! Last year 166 students received new scholarship ranging from $3,000 to $10,000 renewable per year. Do not wait until last minute.  Deadline:  By 5/8.

 

Cappex.com – a free service that tells students which colleges are interested in them before they apply…..offering $25,000 in scholarships, check out opportunities at www.Cappex.com/scholarships  and apply.

 

C-C’s Financial Aid Provider is offering College Scholarships – $1,000 - $25,000 in scholarship opportunities. Go to www.Nelnet.com/win  There are monthly drawings as well. You can enter daily if you are ambitious!

 

Imagine America Foundation Scholarship – go to the website for further details and web tools:      http://www.imagineamericafoundation.com/newsletter/2007_winter/featurestory.asp    Based on financial need, community service and a 2.5 GPA. Must be going on to a career college as opposed to getting a bachelor’s degree.  Deadline:  6/30.

 

Fast Web Scholarship search website – remember that Fast Web is one of the best general scholarship searches on the internet. Be sure to check things out at:  www.fastweb.com

 

MA Convention Center Authority – offers a Hospitality Scholarship Fund, must be a resident of MA, must be going into the hospitality field. For application, go to:  www.massconvention.com  Deadline:  By 5/15.

 

MA Flower Growers’ Association – up to $4,000 in scholarships available to a student who plans to major in Floriculture, Horticulture, or related Agricultural Sciences. Application in guidance. Deadline:  By 5/15.

 

The Spence T. Brennan Foundation – awards (2) $1,000 scholarships to students pursuing a career in environmental protection. Must be from Middleboro or Lakeville OR have a parent employed by the MA Dept. of Environmental Protection (MassDEP). All of the information needed is on their website:  www.spencetbrennan.org  Deadline:  6/2.

 

Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship Program – applicants must have at least a 3.5 GPA and be in the top 5% of their class, must have demonstrated leadership in the community. Students are to complete the application that is in guidance BY 5/20. Then C-C is only allowed to pick one from the school to pass into this outstanding scholarship opportunity. Although the deadline is 6/1, C-C needs applications early to select the best candidate from C-C for this scholarship.  

 

Bristol Community College Foundation Scholarship – must plan to attend BCC, many great scholarship opportunities available by completing the form in Guidance. Deadline:  5/1. ALSO, the   Michael Bosi Scholarship and the Mungo Scholarship are offered by BCC to students who are interested in journalism/media/communications. Deadline:  5/15.

 

ASHRAE Future Engineers Scholarship – (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers, Inc. – (14) scholarships in the amount of $2,000 each will be awarded to high school seniors, or 1st or 2nd year college students pursuing a career in engineering. Find scholarship at:   www.ashraeboston.org/scholarship-info.html  Deadline:  5/30.

 

Taunton Area Chamber of Commerce – Charles E. Volkmann Scholarship Applications are available in Guidance. Residents from Taunton, Raynham, Dighton, Berkley, or Rehoboth are eligible. Students must be interested in a business career, have scholastic achievement, financial need, and participate in school activities and community involvement. (4) $1,000 scholarships. Deadline:  5/16.

 

Friedman Middle School Scholarship -   Must have graduated from Friedman Middle School in Taunton. $1,000. Applications are in Guidance. Deadline: 5/9 

 

Maureen Colton Memorial Scholarship – this is also a tribute to Maureen’s brother, Mr. Robert Burns and her good friend, Gertrude Dermody. It is based on community service, academic achievement, overcoming adversity, athletic participation, hard work, effort, financial need, and employment. Applications are in guidance. Deadline:  6/14. 

 

Le Cotillion, Inc. Scholarship – must be of French descent, male or female, must be a senior in high school or a freshman in college, applications are in Guidance. Deadline:  May 8.

 

Joseph H. Martin School PTO Scholarship – must have attend Martin Middle School in East Taunton for at least two years and be a graduate from there. Deadline:  By 5/21.

 

 

Summer Programs:

Many summer programs (countless!!) are offered to underclassmen. Please see your Guidance Counselor if you would like to participate in one of the many. Here are only a few….

Boston Conservatory Dance Division – Summer Dance ’08 – for students 16 years of age or older. Dance your summer away!  Please apply early to be considered for this competitive academic dance program. www.bostonconservatory.edu

WPI – Worcester Polytechnic Institute – various summer programs for students in grades 9,10,11 going into senior year.

WPI Frontiers – 2 week residential program (7/13-25) for soon to be juniors and seniors. This blends science, technology and engineering programs with workshops and social activities. Check this out at:  www.wpi.edu/+frontiers 

WPI Launch – designed for students entering their freshman and sophomore year in high school (Aug. 4-8) and is a 5 day program offering workshops in Biology, Chemistry/Biochemistry, Interactive Media and Game Development or Robotics. WPI Strive – one week residential program for African American, Latino, and American Indian students. This is for 5 days (July 6-12) and focuses on exploration of engineering, math, and science. Check this out at:  www.wpi.edu/+strive    

 

Summer Honors Program for High School Students at Robert E. Cook Honors College Indiana University of Pennsylvania – July 13-26. Geared to sophomores and juniors. Boston University PROMYS (Program in Mathematics for Young Scientists) – from June 29-August 9. Great mathematical exploration summer program at BU. Check it out at:  www.promys.org

 

Wentworth Institute of Technology STEM Discovery Program – 3 week summer course as an introduction to Bioinformatics, Biomedical Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, and Mechanical Engineering Technology. Boston Architectural College Summer Academy – if you would like to major in Architecture in college, this is a great place to get your Portfolio started. Most architectural schools require a portfolio. This is for students grade 10 and up. Scholarship deadline is April 4, but you may apply after to the program as well. MCLA offers and Individual Enrichment Program (Summer Seminar 6/25-7/19) – this is a great opportunity for students to receive an introduction to the college life, study skills, and earn a couple college credits before the fall. MCLA is looking for students with great academic promise, but who have not achieved their full potential in high school. If you want to apply for this great opportunity, see your guidance counselor. This is for high school seniors who will be college freshmen next year.
